 5th March 2010 - Hindustan Times

The growing but controversial trend of "paid news'' will be taken up for discussion under a calling attention motion in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The motion is listed in the name of CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechury and P. Rajeev and BJP's Kalraj Mishra.

The "paid news'' phenomenon has been a cause of worry, with several organisations, including the Press Council of India, the Editors Guild of India and media bodies, expressing concern over advertisements and paid-for-content (or paid news) being passed off as news.

Political parties, companies, organisations and even indi- viduals have tended to use paid news in newspapers, magazines and television channels.
