An analysis, based on the self-sworn affidavits of the 78 corporators elected to the Panvel City Municipal Corporation, by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Maharashtra Election Watchhas revealed that 17 elected corporators have criminal cases registered against them.

As many as 12 out of the 78 corporators have been booked for 'serious' criminal cases like attempt to murder, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, cheating.

Party-wise statistical analysis has revealed that 29% that is 15 out of the 51 BJP corporators elected to the Panvel civic house having criminal cases against them and as many as 11 BJP corporators that is 22% of the 51 elected corporators, have serious criminal offences against them.

However, only 2 out of the 23 that is 9% of the BKSP corporators have criminal cases against them and only one, Pritam Mhatre, has a serious criminal case such as attempt to murder registered against him. The other corporator Gopal Bhagat from Ward No. 9D has minor criminal offences registered against him.

BJP corporator Jagdish Gaikwad, an alliance candidate and RPI (Athawale) district president, has serious criminal cases against him like kidnapping and criminal intimidation. Another candidate Paresh Thakur, younger brother of BJP's Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur, has a serious criminal case of attempt to murder registered against him.
