Half of the newly elected MLAs in Punjab have criminal cases against them, compared to 14% in the previous house. Twenty-seven (23%) of these MLAs are facing cases for serious offences.

One MLA has an FIR against him in a murder case, but his arrest has been stayed by the Punjab and HaryanaHC, while two others are facing cases of attempt to murder. All the three MLAs who are facing these cases are from AAP.

These details have been enumerated in a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the Punjab Election Watch at a press conference here on Monday, addressed by Jaskirat Singh, Parvinder Singh Kitna, and Harpreet Singh.

Out of 92 MLAs of AAP, 52 face such cases, so do three out of 18 MLAs of Congress, two out of three MLAs of SAD, and one of the two MLAs of BJP.

Sheetal Angural, the AAP MLA from Jalandhar West, has the maximum cases, nine, against him, including cases of attempt to murder, abduction, illegal confinement, gambling, and other offences.

Khadur Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura has five cases against him. Ajnala AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal's name figures in an FIR pertaining to a murder case .
