Around 27 per cent of the candidates contesting in the fifth phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh assembly to be held on February 27, have declared criminal cases against them, officials informed on Monday. Around 36 per cent candidates in the fray for the fifth phase are crorepatis, they further said. The Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 685 candidates out of 693 in this phase.

According to the report released by ADR here on Monday said out of 685 candidates analyzed, 185 or 27 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves. Of these 141 or 21 per cent have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Among the major parties, 42 or 71 per cent out of 59 candidates analysed from SP, 4 or 57 per cent out of 7 candidates analysed from Apna Dal Sone Lal, 25 or 48 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from BJP, 23 or 38 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from BSP, 23 or 38 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from Congress and 10 or 19 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from AAP have declared having criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Candidates with criminal background from major political parties were 29 or 49 per cent out of 59 candidates analysed from SP, 2 or 29 per cent out of 7 candidates analysed from Apna Dal Soneylal, 22 or 42 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from BJP, 17 or 28 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from BSP, 17 or 28 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from Congress and 7 or 14 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from AAP have declared having serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Out of the 685 candidates, 246 or 36 per cent are crorepatis. Among the major parties 47 or 90 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from BJP, 6 or 86 per cent out of 7 candidates analysed from Apna Dal Soneylal, 49 or 83 per cent out of 59 candidates analysed from SP, 44 or 72 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from BSP, 30 or 49 per cent out of 61 candidates analysed from Congress and 11 or 21 per cent out of 52 candidates analysed from AAP have declared assets valued at more than Rs 1 crore.

The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022 Phase V is Rs 2.48 Crores. Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 52 BJP candidates analysed is Rs. 9.95 Crores, for 59 SP candidates it is Rs 5.90 Crores, 61 BSP candidates have average assets of Rs 4.63 Crores, 61 INC candidates have average assets of Rs 2.90 Crores and 52 AAP candidates have average assets worth Rs 80.70 Lakhs.
