One-liner: According to a report released by ADR-National Election Watch, about 31% of sitting Rajya Sabha MPs have declared criminal cases against themselves while the average assets of the MPs are ₹79.54Cr.

Zoom in: Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have analysed the criminal, financial and other background details of 226 out of 233 sitting MPs.

Assets of MPs: Of the 226 sitting Rajya Sabha MPs, 197 (87%) are crorepatis and the average assets per Rajya Sabha MP are ₹79.54Cr.

Statistics of criminal cases: 71 (31%) have declared criminal cases against themselves and 37 (16%) have declared serious criminal cases.

Murder cases: 2 Rajya Sabha MPs have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section 302) and 4 MPs have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC Section 307).

Crime against women: 4 Rajya Sabha MPs have declared cases related to crimes against women and out of these 4 MPs, one namely K C Venugopal (Congress) from Rajasthan has declared case related to rape (IPC Section 376).

State-wise details: 7 (23%) out of 31 Rajya Sabha MPs from Uttar Pradesh, 12 (63%) out of 19 MPs from Maharashtra, 6 (33%) out of 18 from Tamil Nadu, 3 (19%) out of 16 from West Bengal, 6 (67%) out of 9 from Kerala and 10 (63%) out of 16 from Bihar have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
