ADR has released its report on the criminal records of members sitting in the Parliament of India. You will be surprised to know that 40 percent of the MPs of the country are facing some kind of criminal trial. Of these, 25 per cent were booked for murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and serious crimes against women. Let’s know about this in detail.

Serious case against 26 Congress MPs

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the National Election Watch (NEW) analysed the self-affidavits of 763 sitting MPs out of 776 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats. According to the report, out of 398 MPs of BJP, 98 MPs have criminal cases registered against them. 26 out of 81 MPs from Congress, 7 out of 36 from Trinamool, 3 out of 6 from RJD, 8 from CPI(M), 11 out of 31 from YSR Congress, one out of 11 from Aam Aadmi Party and 2 out of 8 MPs from NCP have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

According to the ADR report, 139 out of 385 MPs from BJP, 43 out of 81 from Congress, 14 out of 36 from Trinamool, 5 out of 6 from RJD, 6 out of 8 from CPI(M), 3 out of 11 from Aam Aadmi Party, 13 out of 31 from YSR and 3 out of 8 from NCP have declared criminal cases against themselves. According to this, out of 763 sitting MPs, a total of 40 percent i.e. 306 MPs have declared criminal cases against themselves. 11 sitting MPs have declared criminal cases related to murder, 32 MPs have declared cases related to attempt to murder and 21 MPs have declared criminal cases related to crime against women.

These are the states with the richest MPs

According to the ADR report, the state with the highest average assets per MP is Telangana. The average assets of MPs here is Rs 262.26 crore. This is followed by Andhra Pradesh with average assets per MP at Rs 150.76 crore. Punjab is third with Rs 88.94 crore. The state with the lowest average assets of MPs is Lakshadweep (Rs 9.38 lakh). It is followed by Tripura (Rs 1.09 crore), Manipur (Rs 1.12 crore).
