About 45 p.c candidates who received the latest meeting polls in 5 states have declared criminal instances towards themselves, poll-rights group Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) stated on Tuesday.

The National Election Watch and Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 690 profitable candidates in the meeting elections of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Of the 690 candidates, 219 (32 p.c) profitable candidates have declared severe criminal instances towards themselves, it stated.

It stated round 87 per cent or 598 profitable candidates are crorepatis and the typical asset of a profitable candidate is Rs 8.7 crore.

In Goa, 40 p.c of profitable candidates declared criminal instances towards themselves, whereas 33 p.c declared severe criminal instances.

In UP, 51 p.c of the winners declared criminal instances, whereas 39 per cent declared severe criminal instances towards themselves, it stated.

Similarly in Punjab, 50 p.c of the profitable candidates declared criminal instances whereas 23 p.c declared severe criminal instances towards themselves, it stated.

As many as 27 p.c of the winners in the Uttarakhand polls declared criminal instances towards themselves and 14 p.c declared severe criminal instances.

Likewise in Manipur, 23 p.c candidates who received declared criminal instances whereas 18 per cent declared severe criminal instances towards themselves, it added.

As many as 33 profitable candidates, together with 29 from Uttar Pradesh, declared instances associated to aim to homicide and 12, together with six from UP, declared instances associated to crime towards ladies.

Six profitable candidates declared instances associated to homicide in their affidavits, it stated.

Of the 312 profitable candidates who declared criminal instances towards themselves, 134 are from BJP, 71 from the Samajwadi Party, 52 from the Aam Aadmi Party, 24 from the Congress and 7 from RLD.

The BJP swept UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa in the meeting polls whereas AAP recorded a landslide victory in Punjab.
