Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received five times more donations than four of the other main political parties of the country, namely Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI-M, and National People's Party, according to a report from ADR (Association for Democratic Reforms).

A total of 7,945 people have donated to the BJP ₹719.85 cr. It is worth mentioning that the total donations received by Congress, AAP, NPP and CPI(M) during this same period are five times more than the total donations received by BJP. 

The NPP is the only political party in the North-East which has the status of a national party.

According to the report, the BJP received ₹614.626 cr in donations during 2021-22, which increased by 17.12% for 2022-23. 

While Congress received donations of ₹95.459 cr during 2021-22, it has come down to ₹79.9 cr during 2022-23. 

Compared to the previous year, donations to the CPI(M) saw a drop of 39.56% (₹3.978 cr) and donations to AAP dropped by 2.99% as a drop of ₹1.143 cr was observed.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the country's sixth national party, has not received any donation of more than ₹20,000 during 2022-23. The party has been disclosing the donations it has been receiving continuously for the past 17 years.

Notably, registered political parties have to declare any amount received as donations above Rs 20,000.

State-wise, the donations received from Delhi amounted to ₹276.202 cr, followed by Gujarat's ₹160.509 cr and Maharashtra's  ₹96.273 cr.

For 2022-23, political parties observed an increase of 12.09% over 2021-22 with an increase in donations worth ₹91.701 cr.
