There has been a decrease in the donations received by the recognized political parties in the country. These parties also include the ruling party BJP at the Center, which has registered a decline in the donations received. In the year 2020-21, there has been a decline of more than Rs 420 crore in donations compared to the previous financial year, which is 41.49 percent. The election-related analysis group ADR gave this information on Thursday. A few days before the start of the financial year 2020-21, the first wave of the Kovid epidemic came and a nationwide lockdown was imposed.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said in a statement that there was a 39.23 percent decline in donations to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which fell from Rs 758.77 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 477.54 crore in 2020-21. Earlier, the donation received by the party had increased by 5.88 percent in 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19.

Congress donation also declined

Contribution received by Congress declined by 46.39 percent from Rs 139.016 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 74.524 crore in 2020-21. According to the statement, between 2018-19 and 2019-20, the Congress’s donation had decreased by 6.44 percent. National parties had received a total of Rs 246 crore from Delhi, Rs 71.68 crore from Maharashtra and over Rs 47 crore from Gujarat.

These are recognized political parties

BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and National People’s Party are the eight recognized national parties of the country. The corporate and business sector donated Rs 480.655 crore to national parties, which was more than 80 per cent of the total donations, while 2,258 individual donors contributed a total of Rs 111.65 crore or 18.804 per cent to these parties during the financial year 2020-21 .

BJP got more than 1100 donations

The BJP received over 1,100 donations from the corporate and business sectors (Rs 416.794 crore), while 1,071 individual donors gave Rs 60.37 crore to the party during the financial year 2020-21. During the financial year 2020-21, Congress received a total of Rs 35.89 crore through 146 donations from the corporate sector and Rs 38.634 crore through 931 individual donors.
