Earlier, figures showed that the BJP was the richest political party in the country. At present, the BJP is far ahead in terms of donations received through electoral trusts in the country. According to reports, the BJP received 76 per cent of the vote in 2019-20. This is according to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms, an election monitoring group.

The BJP received Rs 276.45 crore through the trust. According to estimates, the BJP received 76.17 per cent of corporate trust contributions. The Congress got Rs 58 crore. The other major parties are the Aam Aadmi Party at Rs 11.2 crore, the Samajwadi Party at Rs 2 crore and the Janata Dal United at Rs 1.25 crore. All the 13 political parties except BJP (23 per cent) received Rs 83.4652 crore. The Prudential Electoral Trust was the largest donor. 217.75 crore. The Electoral Trust is a body set up to make the contributions of corporate companies to political parties transparent.
