The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will to to polls on 23 April. A total of 2,537 candidates will battle it out in this election for 272 seats.

According to the figures presented by Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), based on the affidavits filed by the candidates upon nomination, 173 candidates have criminal cases pending against them. Of these, 35 belong to the Indian National Congress, 26 to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and 21 to the Aam Admi Party (AAP). A total of 55 independent candidates also have criminal cases against them.

Meanwhile, the ADR also found that 697 of the candidates in the fray were ‘crorepatis’. Of these, 163 are from the Congress, 141 are from the BJP, 104 from AAP and 41 from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). A total of 188 of the independent candidates are also ‘crorepati’
