According to the Association for Democratic Reforms, 18 BJP MLAs have left the party in the same period.
Of the 16 Rajya Sabha members who changed political parties in 2016-2020, 10 are BJP members. Five of the 12 Lok Sabha members who replaced the parties have joined Congress during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the report said.
Of the 405 legislators who replaced the party, 182 have joined the BJP and 38 have joined the Congress. 25 have joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Party.
The ADR analyzed 443 MPs and legislators' self-affirmation affidavits in the Election Commission for the preparation of this report. A total of five BJP MPs left the party during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and joined other parties.
Seven Congress members who were elected to the Rajya Sabha during 2016-2020 have quit the party and are joining another party.
The government of Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Goa and Madhya Pradesh should be taken seriously because of the defection of MLAs, the report said.
