BHOPAL: A total of 31% of the newly elected MPs of Madhya Pradesh have declared criminal cases against them, while 93% of them are crorepatis. Also of the 10 MPs across country who have won after being convicted by a court, two are from the state, says an analysis by the non-government organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The ADR report also says that son of chief minister Kamal Nath and Chhindwara MP Nakul Nath is the richest candidate in the entire country with declared assets worth over Rs660 crores.
As per the analysis made by ADR, 9 out of the 29 MPs in the state have declared criminal cases against them and this comes out to be 31% of the total elected MPs. But, overall the percentage is lower compared to the all-India average where 43% of the total elected candidates have declared criminal cases against them.
Out of the 9 MPs in the state who have criminal cases against them, 5 have serious criminal cases, says the same analysis.

Interestingly, BJP’s Pragya Thakur, who has been elected to the Lower House from Bhopal constituency is the fourth poorest winning candidate in the entire country with declared assets of only Rs4 lakh, says the ADR report.
When it comes to highest earning MPs, Nakul Nath is the only MP in the state who features among the top 10 highest earning MPs of the country. With an annual income of Rs2.76 crore, Nakul is on 8th position when it comes to highest earning MPs, says the ADR analysis.
