Samajwadi Party (SP) has topped the list of richest regional parties, followed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), in a report released by Association for Democratic Reforms, a non-governmental organization (NGO).

ADR analyzed the income and expenditure of 37 regional political parties for the financial year 2017-18.

According to ADR, SP reported having the highest income at Rs 47.19 crore. This was followed by DMK with an income of Rs 35.75 crore and then TRS with an income of Rs 27.27 crore.

The total income of the top three parties amounted to Rs 110.21 crore which compromises 46.45 percent of the total income of the 37 regional parties collectively.

SP and DMK also have the highest expenditure with Rs. 34.54 crore and Rs. 27.47 crore respectively. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is third in line with Rs 16.73 crore.

During the financial year 2017-18, five parties, SP, DMK, TRS, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) recorded an ''excess income over expenditure".

The TRS stands at the top of the list with Rs. 15.19 crore. SP stands second with Rs 12.65 crore, followed by the JD(U) with an excess of Rs 10.32 crore.
