The BJP cornered nearly 90 per cent of the money disbursed through six electoral trusts in the last financial year, according to an analysis by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The BJP received Rs 290.22 crore out of the Rs 325.45 crore collected by six electoral trusts in 2016-17, the ADR said. Other parties which got the balance Rs 35 crore include the Congress, Akali Dal, Samajwadi Party and Trinamul.

Between 2013-14 and 2016-17, nine trusts donated Rs 637.54 crore to political parties with Rs 488.94 crore (76 per cent) going to the BJP and Rs 86.65 crore (13 per cent) to the Congress, the ADR said.

Last year, DLF contributed the highest amount of Rs 28 crore, followed by UPL and JSW Energy. Big donors include Piramal Enterprises, Suresh A. Kotak, Bharti Airtel, Essar Bulk Terminal and Grasim Industries.
