Mukhtar Ansari gets bail in Gangster Act case; Police say won't be released as other cases pending
An MP-MLA Court here on Wednesday granted bail to mafia turned politician Mukhtar Ansari in a murder case but he is unlikely to be released as other cases are pending against him. Special Judge Dinesh Kumar Chaurasia allowed the bail to Ansari, who is lodged in Banda jail, on a surety of Rs 1 lakh.
The case in which he got the relief was lodged at Dakshin Tola police station in Mau in 2011 for the murder of a witness and a police gunner.
Ansari was named as accused in the case and was slapped with the stringent Gangster Act.

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asserted that it was the Yo gi Adityanath government which cracked the whip on the goonda and mafia raj and established the rule of law in UP. “Goonda raj was prevalent during the previous Samajwadi Party government, properties of poor farmers and others were grabbed. Two MLAs were also murdered, but since the day BJP government came to p ower in the state, goonda raj has been completely eradicated,” he said.
“The free ration scheme for the poor launched by the ruling BJP was to end in Novembe r, but was extended with an eye on the assembly elections. The scheme will end in March once the elections are over because those who have an idea about Centre’s budget allocations know tha t the government has not set aside funds to continue with the scheme a fter March,” Akhilesh said. The former UP CM promised that a free ration scheme will be launched for the poor once the SP government is formed after the elections. “The scheme will include free ghee and mustard oil a s well apart from ration and will be provided to people for all five years,” he said.

Party sources said that based on the feedback of the first two phases of polling, the BSP will be reworking its poll strategy for the upcoming phases, details of which will be revealed by Mayawati at her Wednesday’s rally.The party sources said that as per their reports, the first phase has gone reasonably well for the BSP where it is hoping to win at least 10 out of the 30 seats in which it came second in 2017, especially as many of these recorded a high voter turnout this time. While a detailed analysis of the second phase of polling which took place on Monday was still being done, a senior member said that there too the party had managed to ensure a triangular fight on several seats and was hoping that some of these would translate into wins. However, it is the third phase that is worrying the BSP.

In the tainted league, 30 of 58 candidates from Samajwadi Party and 25 of 55 candidates from BJP have declared criminal cases in their affidavits. “Also, 23 of 59 candidates from BSP, 20 of 56 Congress candidates and 11of 49 candidates from AAP have criminal cases against them,” the report states. The ADR report also stated that average assets of SP candidate was pegged at Rs 9. 19 crore, Rs 6. 74 crore for BJP, Rs 4. 60 crore for Congress, Rs 4. 28 crore for BSP and Rs 1. 31 crore for Aam Aadmi Party.
Among principal parties, SP has 52 candidates with assets of more than Rs 1crore, while BJP has 48 nominees, BSP 46, Congress 29 and AAP has fielded 18 crorepatis. With major political parties fielding wealthy candidates, money power is key in the polls, the report states.
3rd leg: 39% crorepatis, 22% with criminal record in fray
At least 39% candidates in the fray for third phase of polling in UP are crorepatis with their average assets pegged at Rs 2. 82 crore. Also, 135 of 623 (22%) candidates have criminal antecedents with 103 of them booked for grave crimes like murder and rape. A detailed analysis by election watchdog, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), states that 245 of 623 candidates fielded by political parties in 59 constituencies, have declared themselves crorepatis.
