According to the Association for Democratic Reforms, during the financial year 2020-21, 91.38 per cent of the total donations received by regional parties i.e. Rs 113.791 crore are five parties- Janata Dal (United), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Aam Aadmi Party, Indian Union Muslim League and Telangana. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization related to election rights, out of the total donations received by regional parties in the country, Rs 113.791 crore or about 91 percent went to five parties.

A report prepared by ADR focuses on the donations announced by regional parties to the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the financial year 2020-21.

The top five regional parties in terms of declared donations are Janata Dal (United), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

It has been said in the report that 91.38 percent of the total donations received by the regional parties i.e. Rs 113.791 crore has gone to the treasury of these five parties.

While JD(U), DMK and TRS have announced increase in their donations, AAP and IUML have reported reduction in donations as compared to FY 2019-20.

The DMK, TRS, JD(U) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) saw the maximum percentage increase in their donation income between FY 2019-20 and FY 2020-21.

Of the 54 regional parties included in the report, only six submitted their donation reports to the Election Commission within the stipulated time period. Twenty-five other parties delayed their presentations ranging from three to 164 days.

The total amount of donations announced by 27 regional parties was Rs 124.53 crore out of 3,051 donations. This includes both above and below Rs 20,000.

No information has been given on receipt of donations by JMM, NDPP, DMDK and RLTP for the financial year 2020-21.

In terms of donations received, JD(U) topped with Rs 60.155 crore from 330 donations, followed by DMK which received Rs 33.993 crore from 177 donations. AAP announced to receive Rs 11.328 crore from donations. IUML and TRS have announced donations of Rs 4.165 crore and Rs 4.15 crore respectively.

Earlier in the month of May last, five regional parties had announced to receive a donation of Rs 250.60 crore to them through electoral bonds in 2020-21.

According to the ADR, 31 regional parties received a total income of Rs 529.416 crore in the 2020-21 financial year and declared their total expenditure of Rs 414.028 crore.

The five parties that spent the most that year were Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Rs 218.49 crore), Telugu Desam Party (Rs 54.769 crore), AIADMK (Rs 42.37 crore), Janata Dal United (Rs 24.35 crore), the report said. and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (Rs 22.35 crore).
