In a bid to enthuse youths to participate in the polling process in greater numbers, Odisha Election Watch (OEW), a State level alliance between civil society organizations and the concerned public working for political and electoral reforms in the state, started a week-long campaign in the city here on Friday.POLL 2014

The campaign will carry forward two messages among the youths of the state, i.e. ‘Cast Your Vote, Build Your Nation’ and ‘My Vote is Not for Sale’. The said messages will be spread through a tableau that will move around the city. Besides, street-plays will also be part of the campaign to create awareness among the young masses.

OEW, in collaboration with NSS, will conduct the week-long campaign in various educational institutions in the capital city with an objective to increase the ratio of youths in the total number of participants casting their votes and to induct ethical practices in the poll process.

“The initiative by OEW is the first-of-its-kind in the state keeping since its inception in the year 2003. It aims to enrol more youth participants, especially college students, in the ensuing polls to cast their votes judiciously in a free, fair and transparent manner,” Coordinator of OEW Ranjan Mohanty told OST.

“This is part of the National Election Watch campaign being carried out in various states in the Country,” he added.

“The State-level campaign has been initiated since December 2013. Today, it was launched in the capital city Bhubaneswar in the state,” Mohanty said adding, “it will be carried out by way of signature campaign in various educational institutions in the city. Youths will take an oath to participate in the electoral process and cast their votes without being influenced by external pressure groups.”.

Sahadeb Sahu, ex-chief secretary Odisha and former VC, OUAT, Baikuntha Panigrahi, former director-Doordarshan and Anuradha Biswal, noted sportsperson were among those present on the occasion.
