A report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) revealed that 23% of candidates contesting in the second phase of the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election have criminal cases against them, while 22% are crorepatis.
The analysis covered 1,445 candidates, of whom 338 declared criminal cases and 295 reported serious criminal charges. The report also stated that 321 candidates have assets worth more than ₹1 crore.
According to ADR, the average assets of candidates in the second phase stand at ₹1.21 crore. Voting for the 294-member assembly will take place on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
