ADR analysis of self-sworn affidavits: 79% are crorepatis, 60% are women

As many as 54 (or 24%) out of the 227 winning candidates of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Maharashtra Election Watch.
 
As many as 29 (13%) winners have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Criminal Background

Party-wise winning candidates with criminal cases: 
29 (33%) out of 89 winning candidates from BJP, 10 (15%) out of 65 winning candidates from Shiv Sena (UBT), 7 (24%) out of 29 winning candidates from Shiv Sena, 3 (13%) out of 24 winning candidates from INC, 2 (25%) out of 8 winning candidates from AIMIM, 1 (17%) out of 6 winning candidates from MNS, 1(33%) out of 3 winning candidates from NCP and 1 (100%) out of 1 winning candidates from NCP(SP) have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Party wise winning candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 
16 (18%) out of 89 winning candidates from BJP, 7 (11%) out of 65 winning candidates from Shiv Sena (UBT), 3 (10%) out of 29 winning candidates from Shiv Sena, 1 (4%) out of 24 winning candidates from INC, 1 (13%) out of 8 winning candidates from AIMIM and 1 (100%) out of 1 winning candidates from NCP(SP) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. 

Financial Background
Crorepati Winning candidates: Out of the 227 winning candidates analysed, 180 (79%) are crorepatis.

Party-wise crorepati winning candidates: 
68 (76%) out of 89 from BJP, 54 (83%) out of 65 from Shiv Sena(UBT), 27 (93%) out of 29 from Shiv Sena, 22 (92%) out of 24 from INC, 4 (67%) out of 6 from MNS, 2 (100%) out of 2 from SP, 2 (67%) out of 3 from NCP and 1 (100%) out of 1 winning candidates from NCP(SP) have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

Education Details of winning candidates:
106 (47%) winning candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass, while 114 (50%) winning candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate and above. 5 winning candidates are Diploma holders. 1 winning candidate has declared his education as just literate and 1 winning candidate is Illiterate.

Age details of winning candidates: 
64 (28%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 21 and 40 years while 160 (70%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 41 and 70 years. There are 3 winning candidates who have declared their age above 70 years.

Gender details of winning candidates: 
Out of 227 winning candidates analysed, 137 (60%) winning candidates are women.
