The newly-elected MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, including those from the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP), have declared their assets. Out of the 230 MLAs, a total of 205 are crorepati, with the highest declared assets being Rs 296 crore. The BJP has the majority of crorepati MLAs, with 144, followed by Congress with 61. The average assets of the MLAs have increased from Rs 10.17 crore in 2018 to Rs 11.7 crore. The BJP won 163 seats in the assembly polls, while Congress won 66 seats.

As many as 205 of the 230 newly-elected MLAs in Madhya Pradesh are crorepatis, with BJP lawmaker from Ratlam City, Chaitanya Kashyap, topping the list with declared assets worth Rs 296 crore, according to an Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report.

The ADR report said that the number of crorepati MLAs has increased from 187 in 2018 to 205 in five years, with 144 of them from the BJP and 61 from Congress.

The BJP swept the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, winning 163 seats, increasing its tally from 109 in 2018. The Congress, which had won 114 seats in 2018, was reduced to 66 seats, while new entrant Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) managed to win in one constituency.

The BAP MLA, Kamlesh Dodiyar, has the least assets, of around Rs 18 lakh. Two other MLAs with the lowest assets include BJP's Santosh Varkade (Rs 25 lakh) and Kanchan Mukesh Tanve (Rs 26 lakh), said the report.

Among the candidates with highest liabilities, BJP's former minister Surendra Patwa (Bhojpur) leads with a debt of Rs 57 crore, Dinesh Jain (Mahidpur) of the Congress is in second place with Rs 30 crore and BJP's Bhupendra Singh (Khurai) at third place with Rs 23 crore, said the ADR.

The report said of the 205 crorepati MLAs, 102 have declared assets of Rs 5 crore and above. As many as 71 legislators have declared assets between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. Also, 48 legislators have declared assets between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crores while nine of the elected MLAs own assets lower than Rs 50 lakh. The average assets of the newly-elected MLAs stood at Rs 11.7 crore, up from Rs 10.17 crore in 2018, said the report. PTI

The average assets per winning candidate is Rs 5.25 crore. 33 MLAs have passed class 5 to class 12, and 54 MLAs hold graduate dF7egrees or higher qualifications. 44 winning candidates are between 25 and 50 years old, while 46 are between 51 and 80 years old.

ADR report reveals that 39% of newly elected MLAs in Madhya Pradesh have criminal cases against them. Out of these, 51 belong to BJP, 38 to Congress, and 1 to Bharatiya Adivasi Party. The number of MLAs with criminal cases has decreased compared to the previous assembly polls. Additionally, 89% of the MLAs are 'crorepati', with BJP having 144 and Congress having 61 crorepati MLAs. The richest MLA has a wealth of over Rs 296 crores. Furthermore, 12% of the winning candidates are women, a slight increase from the last assembly polls.

Samajwadi Party has the highest assets among regional parties in 2021-22, followed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi. The total assets of DMK, BJD, and JD(U) increased by 95%. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's assets increased by 244.88%. Biju Janata Dal's assets increased by 143%. JD(US) assets went up by oFFver 95%. Aam Aadmi Party's assets increased by 71.76%. AIADMK and TDP showed a decrease in their assets.
