Independent MLA from Rayagada in Odisha Makaranda Muduli is among the 10 MLAs in the country with lowest assets. With Rs 15,000 movable assets, he is second from the bottom on the list, according to a recent analysis conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

In Odisha, the average assets of all 145 MLAs is Rs 4,12,37,679 and not a single among them cross the Rs 100 crore-mark. In other words, the state has no billionaire MLA.

The report further said that the state with the highest average assets per MLA is Karnataka (223 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 64.39 crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh (174 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 28.24 crore and Maharashtra (284 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 23.51 crore. Tripura (59 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 1.54 crore, followed by West Bengal (293 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 2.80 crore and Kerala (135 MLAs) with average assets of Rs 3.15 crore are the states with lowest average assets.

Similarly, 32 (14%) out of 223 MLAs from Karnataka, 4 (7%) out of 59 MLAs from Arunachal Pradesh, 10 (6%) out of 174 MLAs from Andhra Pradesh, 12(4%) out of 284 MLAs from Maharashtra, 2(3%) out of 68 MLAs from Himachal Pradesh, 5(3%) out of 182 MLAs from Gujarat and 6(3%) out of 230 MLAs from Madhya Pradesh have declared assets worth more than Rs. 100 crore.

According to the gender analysis report, Odisha has elected 17 women (12%) and 128 (88%) men MLAs. Among 113 BJD MLA, 16 are women (14%) and 97 (86%) are men.

Out of the total 4001 MLAs in the country, 378 (9%) MLAs are women. Highest number of women MLAs are from Uttar Pradesh 48 (12%) followed by West Bengal with 41 (14%) and Bihar 28 (12%).
