The Election Commission has set up a system to bring transparency in donations to political parties.

Through these trusts, private companies can donate as much as they want to the parties they want.

In this regard, the League for Democratic Reforms, an electoral rights group, has released details of donations received by parties in the last 2019-20 financial year.

Accordingly, the BJP has the highest number of parties. 276.45 crore through 7 Election Trusts. This is 76.17 per cent of the amount paid to all political parties.

Next to the BJP, the Congress party has received Rs 58 crore. This is 15.98 per cent of donations to parties.

Apart from these two parties, 12 parties including Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, United Janata Dal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Jammu and Kashmir National Convention Party have received donations totaling Rs 25.46 crore.

JSW Steel Company, Apollo Tires, Indiabulls, Delhi International Airport, DLF The group is one of the largest donors to election trusts. Among them, J.S.W. The company has donated a maximum of Rs 39.10 crore. During the last financial year, 18 individuals have donated to election trusts.

The Election Commission had directed the Election Commission to file a report on donations received and received by the parties.

Accordingly, out of a total of 21 election trusts in the last financial year, 14 trusts had filed reports. Of those, only 7 trusts reported receiving donations.
