The BJP received Rs 276.45 crore in donations in 2019-20 through the Electoral Trust, which is 76.17 per cent of the good received by all political parties. According to the report, the Congress was second only to the BJP in terms of donations, receiving Rs 58 crore, which is 15.98 per cent of the total donations received by all political parties from all the seven electoral trusts. Among the senior contributors to the Electoral Trust were JSW, Apollo Tires, Indiabulls, Delhi International Airport and DLF, the report said. Groups included. JSW Steel Ltd. has the highest number of donors at 39. Donated Rs. 10 crore. Apollo Tires was the second largest contributor with Rs 30 crore. Indiabulls also donated Rs 25 crore to various election trusts.

The report said that in the financial year 2019-20, 18 people also donated to various trusts. Of these, 10 contributed Rs 2.87 crore to the Prudential Electoral Trust. Four people donated Rs 5.50 lakh to the Small Donations Electoral Trust and four people donated a total of Rs one lakh to the Swadeshi Electoral Trust. The Election Commission had issued guidelines for the submission of reports on donations received by the Electoral Trust for transparency and its release to political parties. These guidelines were issued to 7 electoral trusts formed after January 2013 - Satya Electoral Trust, Representative Electoral Trust, People's Electoral Trust, Progressive Electoral Trust, Public Interest Electoral Trust, Bajaj Electoral Trust and General Elect. Of the 21 election trust registered with the Central Board of Direct Taxes, 14 submitted their details of donations of 2019-20 to the Election Commission, of which only seven declared that they had some donations this year.
