Check out who is the richest candidate in the fray for phase 1 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections

As many as 450 candidates (28 per cent of total candidates) in the fray for phase one of the Lok Sabha elections are crorepaties, an analysis by non-profit organisation Association for Democratic Reforms shows.

90 per cent of the BJP’s candidates (69 out of 77) are crorepatis, while for the Congress, this figure stands at 88 per cent (49 of 56 candidates). As many as 35 (97 per cent) out of 36 candidates from the AIADMK, and 21 (96 per cent) out of 22 candidates from the DMK are crorepatis.

10. Karti P Chidambaram

Son of Rajya Sabha MP, P Chidambaram, Karti is a politician and businessman. He is a member of the Indian National Congress, who won Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga seat in the 2019 elections. With a net worth of over 96 crore, he is contesting from the seat again.

9. Jyoti Mirdha

Previously a member of Congress, she joined the BJP in September 2023. She is contesting from Nagaur of Rajasthan and has a net worth of over 102 crore.

8. Vincent H Pala

He served as the minister of water resources in 2009 and asst. chief engineer for Meghalaya (2000-2008). A member of Congress, Pala is contesting from Shillong (ST) of Meghalaya. He has a net worth of over 125 crore.

7. Jayaprakash V

Contesting from Krishnagiri of Tamil Nadu, Jayaprakash is a member of AIADMK with over 135 crore of assets.

6. Ac Shanmugam

Elected to the Lok Sabha in 1984 as an AIADMK candidate, he is the founder and president of the caste-based political party Puthiya Needhi Katchi. A member of BJP now, he has a net worth of over 152 crore and is contesting from Vellore of Tamil Nadu.

5. Majid Ali

Contesting from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Ali is a member of BSP and has a net worth of over 159 crore.

4. Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah

A social and political worker, Shah is contesting from Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand and her assets are over 206 crore. She is a member of BJP.

3. Dhevanathan Yadav T

A member of the BJP , he is contesting from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. He has a net worth of over 304 crore.

2. Ashok Kumar

The chairman of Krishnagiri District panchayat, he is contesting from the Erode constituency of Tamil Nadu. Kumar is a member of the AIADMK and has a net worth of over 662 crore.

1. Nakul Nath

Son of Congress veteran Kamal Nath, Nakul, with a net worth of over 716 crore, is the richest candidate in the fray in phase one of the Lok Sabha elections. He is fighting to retain his seat from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh.

The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 19 in 21 states and union territories across India in 102 constituencies. The result will be declared on June 4 and it would decide the future prime minister of India.

The states and UTs that would see elections in the first phase are Arunachal Pradesh (2), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Madhya Pradesh (6), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (3), Maharashtra (5), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Rajasthan (12), Sikkim (1), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Lakshadweep (1) and Puducherry (1).
