A latest report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms on Tuesday, November 26, revealed the criminal records, financial background, education, age and gender details of the newly elected candidates of the Maharashtra's 15th legislative assembly (MLAs). This development came days after the Maharashtra assembly election results were announced on November 23 where the Mahayuti government reigned into power with a landslide victory in the state. Criminal records: As many as 65% of the newly elected MLAs, which is 187 of them, have criminal cases pending against them. Of these, three MLAs face murder charges and 11 have cases of attempt to murder pending. 118 (41%) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. 3 winning candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section-302) and murder by life-convict (IPC Section-303) against themselves. 11 winning candidates have declared cases related to Attempt to murder (IPC Section-307) against themselves. 10 winning candidates have declared cases related to crime against women. Out of 10 winning candidates 1 winning candidate has declared charge related to rape (IPC Section-376). 92 (70%) out of 132 winning candidates from BJP, 38 (67%) out of 57 winning candidates from Shiv Sena, 20 (49%) out of 41 winning candidates from NCP, 13 (65%) out of 20 winning candidates from Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), 9 (56%) out of 16 winning candidates from INC, 5 (63%) out of 8 winning candidates from NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) and 2 (100%) out of 2 winning candidates from SP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. 53 (40%) out of 132 winning candidates from BJP, 27 (47%) out of 57 winning candidates from Shiv Sena, 12 (29%) out of 41 winning candidates from NCP, 8 (40%) out of 20 winning candidates from Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), 6 (38%) out of 16 winning candidates from INC, 4 (50%) out of 8 winning candidates from NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) and 2 (100%) out of 2 winning candidates from SP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. Financial data: Out of the total winning candidates analysed, 277 (97%) are crorepatis. Party-wise crorepati winning candidates: 129 (98%) out of 132 winning candidates from BJP, 56 (98%) out of 57 winning candidates from Shiv Sena, 41 (100%) out of 41 winning candidates from NCP, 19(95%) out of 20 winning candidates from Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), 15(94%) out of 16 Winning candidates from INC, 7(88%) out of 8 Winning candidates from NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar, 2(100%) out of 2 Winning candidates from Jan Surajya Shakti and 2(100%) out of 2 winning candidates from SP have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore. Meanwhile, 14 winning candidates are Diploma holders and 2 winning candidates have declared their education just literate. Age: The report also revealed that 26% (75) MLAs are senior citizens, aged between 61 and 80, while 24 (8%) are in the 25-40 age group. Besides, 187 (65%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 41 and 60 years. Gender: 22 (8%) winning candidates are women.
