Of the 20 MPs whose IT returns were asked for under RTI, the details of only 3 MPs (Mr Baju Ban Ryan (MP from Tripura East constituency of Tripura), Mr Shafiqur Rahman Barq (MP from Sambhal constituency of Uttar Pradesh)and Ms Usha Verma (MP from Hardoi constituency of Uttar Pradesh) were made available by the Public Information Officers (PIO). The IT returns of others MPs were denied under various sections, like 8(1)(j), 8(1)(d), 11(1) and 11(3) of the RTI Act.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) succesfully held a press conference on analysis of donations received by Political Parties in India. ADR has analysed the donations received by 6 national parties and several regional parties across 9 states in India.

The report reveals details such as; which companies have contributed to which political parties, which political party has received maximum amount of donations, the list of their top donors etc. 

The character of Politics is decided by the political parties participating in it. For a vibrant and strong democracy, it is important that the political parties are transparent, accountable and have true inner-party democracy. Using RTI as the tool, ADR has been instrumental in ensuring that the political parties provide the details of their Income Tax to public. The following reports provide more details.
