The elections in Karnataka have just concluded and the Congress is all set to form the government.

In the new assembly there are 122 candidates who have pending criminal cases against them according to their self-sworn affidavits. A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms and Karnataka Election Watch says that in the 2018 elections there were 77 MLAs with pending criminal cases.

In the current term the 122 candidates with pending criminal cases, 71 have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. In 2018 this number was 54 the report also said.

One winning candidate has declared a case relating to murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. 3 have reported attempt to murder cases, while 7 have said that there are cases related to crimes against women pending against them. One candidate has declared that he has a rape case pending against him under Section 376 of the IPC.

78 from the Congress have pending criminal cases against them, the report says. In the case of the BJP and JD(S) it is BJP it is 34 and 9 respectively.

In terms of serious criminal cases, the Congress has 40 MLAs, while in the case of the BJP and JD(S) it is 7 and 1 respectively the report also said.

Financial details:

There are 217 crorepatis in the 224 member house, the Association for Democratic Reforms report also said. The number was at 221 in 2018.

Among the crorepatis, 132 are from the Congress, 63 from the BJP and 19 from the JD(S).

The average assets of the winning candidates in Karnataka is Rs 64.39 crore. The average assets per MLA in 2018 was Rs 34.59 crore.

The average assets of the Congress MLAs is at Rs 67.13 crore, while in the case of the BJP the number stands at Rs 44.36 core. In the case of the JD(S) it is Rs 46.01 crore.

One MLA from the Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha has declared assets to the tune of Rs 246.51 crore. Two independents have said in their affidavits that their assets are to the tune of Rs 637.16 crore.

The richest candidate is D K Shivakumar who has declared assets worth Rs 1,413 crore. K H Puttaswamy Gowda an independent is second on the list with assets to the tune of Rs 1,267 crore. Third on the list of richest candidates is Priyakrishna of the Congress with assets worth Rs 1,156 crore.

Other details:

64 winning candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 156 winning candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. 3 winning candidates have declared they are more than 80 years old.

Out of 223 winning candidates analysed, 10 winning candidates are women. In 2018, out of 221 MLAs, 7 MLAs were women, the report also said.
