As many as 251 (46%) of the 543 newly elected Lok Sabha members have criminal cases registered against them, according to an analysis by ADR. As many as 170 (31%) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to rape, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women. Twenty-seven winning candidates have declared convicted cases against themselves.
