More than half of the MLAs in the newly elected assembly of Uttar Pradesh have criminal cases registered against them. According to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), out of 403 newly elected MLAs in Uttar Pradesh, 205, or about 51 per cent, have criminal cases registered. This has been revealed from the affidavits of the candidates submitted at the time of nomination.

According to an analysis report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 158 winning candidates in the newly-elected assembly, or 39 per cent, have given affidavits of serious criminal charges against them. These include cases related to heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women.

Apart from this, 5 newly elected MLAs have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section-302) against them. While 29 MLAs have declared cases related to attempt to murder, the six winning candidates are accused of crimes against women. Out of which a case related to rape is also registered against him.

According to the ADR analysis, out of the party’s 255 winning candidates, 111, or 44 per cent, are those with a criminal background. While 71 out of 111 winning candidates of SP i.e. 64 per cent, out of 8 winning candidates of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) 7 i.e. about 88 per cent have criminal records.

At the same time, four out of six ie 67 per cent each of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SubhaSP) and Nishad Party and three out of 12 winning candidates of Apna Dal have admitted to having registered criminal cases. Apart from all this, two candidates of Jansatta Dal, two from Congress and the lone winning candidate of BSP have also declared to have criminal records.

Apart from criminal record, if we talk about the declaration of assets, then about 233 out of 255 newly elected MLAs of BJP, 100 out of 111 of SP, 9 out of 12 of Apna Dal, 7 out of 8 of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Suheldev 6 of Bharatiya Samaj Party, 6 of Nishad Party have declared assets of more than Rs 1 crore. In the same sequence, 2 winning candidates from Jansatta Dal, 2 from Congress and 1 from BSP have also declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
