The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a non-governmental organization (NGO) which works in the area of electoral and political reforms, has dragged the government to Supreme Court over its alleged misuse of foreign funding laws to target NGOs, reports CNBC-TV18. ADR has claimed the current norms for foreign funding are widely used for harassing NGOs but the same norms are not being applied to the two parties in question. SC has agreed for an urgent hearing on the case on September 14 and in fact, has even warned all parties involved that no pleas seeking adjournment will be tolerated. Incidentally, this was the same NGO which won a case at Delhi High Court against Congress and BJP in 2014 for receiving illegal donations from fully owned subsidiaries of Sesa Sterlite. The Delhi HC had back then indicted both the parties and directed the Home Affairs Ministry as well as the Election Commission to take action against these parties within 6 months. However, so far no action has been taken.
