West Bengal, May 31: In West Bengal the minister with the highest assets is worth Rs 28 crore while the one with the lowest is worth Rs 5 lakh. The average assets of the 42 ministers who were sworn in recently is Rs 3.36 crore.  West Bengal Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 42 Ministers including the Chief Minister from West Bengal State Assembly 2016.

Financial background: The new assembly has 25 ministers who are crorepatis. The ministers have average assets of Rs 3.36 crore. The minister with the highest assets is Jakir Hossain with Rs 28 crore. Javed Ahmed Khan and Amit Kumar Mitra are worth Rs 17 crore and Rs 11 crore respectively. Churamani Mahata with Rs 5 lakh worth assets is the poorest minister in the new assembly. He is followed by Manturam Pakhira and Asima Patra with assets worth Rs 8 lakh and Rs 18 lakh respectively.

Other Details: Ministers with Criminal Cases: 9 (21%) out of the 42 Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves. Ministers with Serious Criminal Cases: Out of the 9 Ministers who have declared criminal cases, 7 have declared serious criminal cases. These cases include attempt to murder, kidnapping, communal disharmony etc. A total of 10 ministers have declared their age between 31 to 50 years. 29 Ministers have declared their age to be between 51 and 70 years and 3 Ministers declared their age to be between 71 and 80 years. The youngest minister is Laxmi Ratan Shukla aged 35 years from Howrah Uttar constituency. Out of 42 Ministers, only 4 (10%) are women. They are Mamata Banerjee, Shashi Panja, Asima Patra and Sandhya Rani Tudu. OneIndia News
