On the other hand, Nirmal Kumar Dhara from the Indus constituency of West Bengal was found to be India's poorest MLA.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar is India's richest MLA, a report from the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) showed. According to the latest data, the Congressman owns assets worth Rs 1,413 crore.

Interestingly, the second and third positions in the list were also claimed by legislators from Karnataka. 12 of India's 20 richest MLAs came from Karnataka, the report pointed out.

Independent MLA from Gauribidanur KH Puttaswamy Gowda came second behind DK Shivakumar with assets worth Rs 1,267 crore while Congress MLA Priyakrishna from Govindraj Nagar came third with declared assets of Rs 1,156 crore, the report said.

4,001 sitting MLAs from 28 state assemblies and two Union territories were included in the formulation of the report by NEW and ADR, the Times Of India (TOI) said in a report.

The KPCC chief had liabilities of around Rs 265 crore while Puttaswamy Gowda cited liabilities of just around Rs 5 crore. However, Priyakrishna cited liabilities of Rs 881 crore. This is the highest among all legislators considered for the study across the country.

On the other hand, Nirmal Kumar Dhara from the Indus constituency of West Bengal was found to be India's poorest MLA. He reportedly owns assets of Rs 1,700 with no liabilities. The poorest MLA from Karnataka is BJP’s Bhagirathi Murulya, who has declared assets of Rs 28 lakh and Rs 2 lakh of liabilities, the report added.
