The average asset of an MLA in India stands at approximately Rs 13.63 crore, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Surprisingly, legislators with declared criminal cases possess even higher assets, averaging at Rs 16.36 crore, compared to those with no criminal cases, with assets averaging at Rs 11.45 crore.
The report's analysis is based on 4001 sitting MLAs from 28 state assemblies and two Union Territories.
Notably, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar tops the list as the richest MLA in the country, with assets worth a staggering Rs 1,413 crore. On the other end of the spectrum, a BJP MLA from West Bengal owns assets amounting to just Rs 1,700.
Among the top 10 MLAs with the highest assets, the list includes four legislators from the Congress party and three from the BJP.
