There are 38 candidates contesting the Goa assembly elections 2017 who have declared pending criminal cases against them. One hundred and fifty-six out of the 251 candidates are crorepatis according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms. Candidates with cases related to crimes against women: Two candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women. Party wise candidates with criminal cases: Three (8%) out of 39 candidates from Aam Aadmi Party, 6 (17%) out of 36 candidates from Bharatiya Janta Party, 9 (24%) out of 37 candidates from Indian National Congress, 2 (8%) out of 25 candidates from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak, 5 (29%) out of 17 candidates from Nationalist Congress Party and 9 (16%) out of 58 independent candidates have declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits. Party wise candidates with serious criminal cases: Six (16%) out of 37 candidates from INC, 3 (8%) out of 36 candidates from BJP, 2 (8%) out of 25 candidates from Maharahtrawadi Gomantak, 1 (6%) out of 17 candidates from NCP and 4 (7%) out of 58 Independent candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them in their affidavits. Crorepati candidates: Out of the 251 candidates analysed, 156 (62%) are crorepatis. Party wise crorepati candidates: Thirty-four (92%) out of 37 candidates from INC, 35 (97%) out of 36 candidates from BJP, 19 (49%) out of 39 candidates from AAP, 13 (52%) out of 25 candidates from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak, 10 (59%) out of 17 candidates fielded by NCP and 27 (47%) out of 58 independent candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore. Average assets: The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Goa assembly elections 2017 is Rs 4.75 crore. Party-wise average assets: Among the major parties, the average assets per candidate for 37 INC candidates is Rs 8.07 crore, 36 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 7.61 crore, 39 AAP candidates have average assets worth Rs 4.21 crore, 25 Maharashtrawadi Gomantak candidates have average assets worth Rs 3.60 crore, 17 NCP candidates have average assets worth Rs 2.27 Crores, and 58 independent candidates have average assets of Rs. 3.20 crore.
