The winners in the Karnataka Assembly elections 2023 won by an average of the 50 per cent votes polled. In the 2018 election, the winners won by an average of the 48 per cent of the total votes polled says a report by the Association For Democratic Reforms.

The report also said that 113 winners won with 50 per cent and above of the total votes polled in their constituency. 111 winners won just less than 50 per cent of the total votes polled in their constituency.

The report also says that 63 candidates with declared criminal cases against them have won with a vote share of 50 per cent or above. 111 out of the 218 crorepati candidates have won with a vote share of over 50 per cent and above, the report also added

Margin of Victory:

  • 8 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 1,000 votes.
  • 5 winners have won with more than 40 per cent margin of victory.
  • Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory
  • 63 out of 123 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 63 winners, 35 winners have won with more than 10 per cent margin of victory.
  • Among these, B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan (INC) from Chamrajapet constituency won with 43 per cent margin of victory.

Crorepati winners and their margin of victory:

  • 7 out of 218 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 7 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 30 per cent margin of victory.
  • Among these, Balachandra Laxmanrao Jarkiholi (BJP) from Arabhavi constituency won with 38 per cent margin of victory.

Performance of Women Winners:

  • Among the 224 winners, 10 are women.
  • All of them won with 35 per cent and above of vote share in their constituencies.
  • Among the women winners, Bhagirathi Murulya (BJP) from Sullia (SC) Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 57.01 per cent in her constituency and 18.74 per cent margin of victory.

Performance of Re-elected Winners:

  • Out of total 94 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 20 per cent of vote share in their respective constituencies. 48 have won with more than 50 per cent of vote share.
  • 49 re-elected winners have won with less than 10 per cent margin of victory whereas 1 has won with more than 50 per cent margin of victory.

NOTA:

The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 3, 91, 54,967 votes polled in Karnataka Assembly, 2023, 2, 69, 763 were polled for NOTA.
