LS polls 2024: A total of 120 candidates contesting in sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections have declared assets of Rs 5 crore and above.

Lok Sabha Phase 6: Industrialist and Congress-turned-BJP leader Naveen Jindal is the candidate with the highest declared assets contesting in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. He has declared assets worth Rs 1241 crore, according to a report.

He is followed by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Santrupt Misra, contesting from Cuttack parliamentary constituency in Odisha, with declared assets worth over Rs 482 crore. AAP candidate from Haryana’s Kurukshetra Dr Sushil Gupta has declared assets of over Rs 169 crore.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 866 out of 869 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase VI.

Out of the 866 candidates, 338 (39 per cent) are Crorepatis.

A total of 120 candidates have declared assets of Rs 5 crore and above.

Among the major parties 6 (100 per cent) out of 6 candidates from BJD, 4 (100 per cent) out of 4 candidates from RJD, 4 (100 per cent) out of 4 candidates from JD(U), 48 (94 per cent) out of 51 candidates from BJP, 11 (92 per cent) out of 12 candidates from SP, 20 (80 per cent) out of 25 candidates from Congress, 4 (80 per cent) out of 5 candidates from AAP and 7 (78 per cent) candidates out of 9 candidates analysed from Trinamool Congress have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

The average assets per candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha phase VI election is Rs 6.21 crores.

Strikingly, Master Randhir Singh contesting as an Independent candidate from Haryana’s Rohtak constituency has assets worth Rs 2. Ram Kumar Yadav, contesting from Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) party from UP’s Pratapgarh, has assets worth over Rs 1,000, while Khilkhilakar of the Bahujan Shoshit Samaj Sangharsh Samta Party, contesting from North West Delhi (SC) constituency has declared assets worth Rs 2000.

Lok Sabha elections phase 6: Candidates educational background

A total of 332 (38 per cent) candidates have declared their educational qualifications to be between 5th and 12th standard while 487 (56 per cent) candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above.

While 22 candidates are Diploma holders, 12 candidates have declared themselves to be just literate and 13 candidates are Illiterates.

About 11 per cent, or 92 female candidates are contesting in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha Phase VI that will be held on May 20.
