One might feel that the second phase of elections to 14 Municipal Council polls in Pune and Latur districts due on December 14 is an insignificant election. But according to the analysis of the contesting candidates done by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Maharashtra Election Watch, out of the 1,184 candidates contesting the elections for 324 seats, there are 96 candidates (8 percent) who are crorepatis (millionaires). What is more interesting is that all the eight per cent of the millionaires are from Pune district alone. The candidate with highest declared total assets is Raju Tukaram Bhosale who is contesting from Shirur municipal council (Pune), with assets worth Rs 16.14 crore.

According to the ADR report, the average assets per candidate analysed for this election, is more than Rs 39 lakhs. The others in the millionaire club include - Jagdish Gokuldas Punjabi from Indapur having assets worth Rs 14.20 crore, Shekhar Bajaj (Talegaon-Dabade) having asset of Rs 12.03 crore, Chandrakalabai Dange (Lonavala) having assets worth Rs 11.68 crore and Vinod Biramane (Saswad) having assets worth Rs 11.42 crore. Further,  there are 294 candidates who have declared their assets below Rs 2 lakh and 51 candidates who have declared their assets as zero.

Meanwhile, the candidate with highest declared total liabilities is Laxman Maruti Parthe who is contesting from Saswad municipal council (Pune), having liabilities of Rs 4 crore. Moreover, only two out of 1,184 candidates have declared a total annual income of more than Rs 20 lakhs in Income Tax return. Out of total 1,184 analysed candidates, 595 (50 percent) are men whereas 589 (50 percent) are women.

According to the Association for Democratic Reforms report, the average assets per candidate analysed for this election, is more than Rs 39 lakhs.
