Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar is reportedly the richest MLA in the country. According to the report released by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW), he has assets of Rs 1,413 crore.

12 out of twenty richest MLAs in the country are from Karnataka. All 19 members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly are billionaires. 32 members of Karnataka assembly have assets of more than 100 crores.

9 members from BJP, two from JD(S), one from KRPP and one independent have assets worth crores.

The poorest MLA in the country is Nirmal Kumar Dhara, a BJP MLA from West Bengal with an income of just Rs 1,700. KH Puttaswamy Gowda, an independent MLA from Karnataka and industrialist, is in the second position. An MLA from Gauribidanur, he has assets of 1267 crores. Congress MLA Priya Krishna is in the third position with a net worth of Rs 1,156 crore.

Priyakrishna is also the most responsible MLA in the list of legislators across the country. Gali Janardhana Reddy, a mining tycoon from Karnataka, is in the list of billionaire MLAs in the country. He has assets worth Rs 246 crore.

According to the report, 14 percent of Karnataka MLAs are billionaires and they are the richest MLAs in the country. According to ADR, the average income of legislators is Rs 64.3 crore

BJP’s Bhagirathi Murulya, who was elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has assets of only 28 lakh rupees.

DK Sivakumar responded to the report saying that he has long term savings. He is neither rich nor poor. This is personal savings. He said that he is neither poor nor super rich.
