Donations received by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during the financial year 2020-21 have gone up along with Janata Dal (United) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). However, two other regional parties — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) — have reported a dip in the donations when compared to FY 2019-20.

The TRS, DMK, JD(U) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also saw the maximum percentage increase in their incomes from donations between FY 2019-20 and FY 2020-21, according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a poll rights group.

Donations in TRS, DMK & JDU kitty go up, says report

The TRS, which submitted the donations report with a delay of 102 days, declared donations of Rs 4.15 crore.

As far as the donations are concerned, the JD(U) gets the top billing with Rs 60.15 crore from 330 donations. MK Stalin’s DMK received Rs 33.99 crore from 177 donations, while Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP declared receiving Rs 11.32 crore, the third highest among the regional parties. The IUML got donations of Rs 4.16 crore.

ADR said the total amount of donations declared by 27 regional parties, including both above and below Rs 20,000, was Rs 124.53 crore. This amount was accrued from 3,051 donations.

The ADR report said that 91.38 per cent or Rs 113.79 crore of the total donations received by the regional parties filled the coffers of the TRS, DMK, JD(U), AAP and the IUML.

In its report, ADR also said that only six parties submitted their donations reports to the Election Commission out of 54 regional parties in the stipulated period. Twentyfive other regional parties, including TRS and Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRC, delayed their submission of donations reports by three days to 164 days, it said.

Jharkhand Mukti Morch, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), TDP, YSRC and Shiv Sena also saw the highest decrease in the percentage of donations received between FY 2019-20 and 2020-21, the report added.
