Thoubal Election Result 2022: Former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh of Congress defeated his nearest BJP rival L Basanta Singh by 2,543 votes in Thoubal seat.

In the Thoubal seat, polling was disrupted at one of the booths on March 5 because of a technical snag.

Later, repolling took place at Thoubal along with Ukhrul, and Senapati districts on March 8 after the polling at these stations were ruled "invalid" on March 5 following the incident in which 12 electronic voting machines were broken, the Election Commission of India reported.

He has served as the chief minister of the northeastern state thrice between 2012 and 2017.

In the 2017 election, he received 18,649 more votes than activist Irom Sharmila, who was seen as a strong challenger in Thoubal.

He is up against the BJP's Leitanthem Basanta Singh, the JD(U) Irom's Chaoba Singh, and the Shiv Sena's Konsam Michael Singh this time.

According to Manipur Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analyses of all candidates' affidavits, Ibobi has declared four cases, including four charges of cheating and dishonestly inducing property delivery, two charges of criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by a banker, merchant, or agent, two charges of criminal breach of trust punishment, and four charges of criminal breach of trust punishment.
