 National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 74 candidates who are contesting in the Phase 4 of Lok Sabha 2014 Elections.

Seven Lok Sabha seats in four states are voting on April 12 and 74 candidates are in the fray. Three seats in Assam, one seat in Tripura, two seats in Goa and the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim are voting in the fourth phase.

Out of total 74 candidates, nine candidates have criminal records. Of them six are from Goa and three are from Assam. Sikkim and Tripura have none.

Candidates with serious criminal cases: Out of these nine candidates, five candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation etc.

Candidates with multiple serious IPC counts: Four candidates have declared multiple serious IPC counts. Dayanand G. Narvekar an Independent candidates from North Goa Constituency has declared four serious IPC counts followed by Govind Gaude an Independent candidate from South Goa constituency with three serious IPC counts, Churchill Alemao of AITC from South Goa constituency with three serious IPC counts and Lalit Mohon Suklabaidya of INC Karimganj constituency in Assam with two serious IPC counts.

There are 20 crorepati candidates in the fray. Goa has seven crorepati candidates. Party- wise crorepati candidates: Six (86 per cent) out of seven candidates in INC, three (43 per cent) out of seven candidates in BJP, both candidates from AGP, one (50 per cent) out of two candidates from CPI (M) and two (8 per cent) out of 25 Independent candidates have declared assets worth over Rs 1 crore.

Average Assets: The average assets per candidate contesting in the 4th phase of Lok Sabha 2014 elections is Rs 2.12 crore.

Party-wise average assets: Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for seven INC candidates is Rs 4.01 crore, seven BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 1.67 crore, six AAP candidates have average assets worth of Rs 34.20 lakh and four AITC candidates have average assets of Rs 4.51 crore.

Party-wise asset rank: Five (71 per cent) out of seven INC candidates occupy the top three assets positions amongst all the contesting candidates in their respective constituencies. Similarly, three (43 per cent) out of 7 BJP candidates and both the candidates from AGP candidates occupy the top three asset positions in their constituency.

High asset candidates: Five candidates have declared over Rs 8 crores worth of assets. The top three candidates with highest assets are given below. Total assets includes income of self, spouse and dependents.

Jawahar Leonardo Dias, GoemcaranchoOtrec Astro Party candidate from South Goa is the richest with declared assets worth over Rs 56 crore. Churchill Alemao, Trinamool Congress candidate from South Goa has declared assets worth Rs 14 crore and Dayanand G Narvekar, Independent candidate from North Goa has declared assets worth Rs 18 crore.

Low asset candidates: A total of 7 candidates have declared assets less than Rs 1 lakh. The CPI (ML) candidate from Tripura East has declared assets worth just Rs 3,500.

Candidates with high liabilities: A total of five candidates have declared liabilities of more than Rs 50 lakh. Out of these five candidates, three have declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and above. Candidates with high income: Four candidates have declared total annual income of more than Rs 40 lakhs. The top three candidates with highest declared annual income are given below.

Income tax

55 per cent candidates have declared their income tax details and 45 per cent have not declared it. 47 per cent candidates are graduates and above, 49 per cent are 12th pass and below, 3 per cent others and 1 per cent are illiterate. 57 per cent candidates are in the age group of 25-50 years and 35 per cent are in the age group of 51-70 years. Just 8 per cent candidates are above 70 years.
