A whopping 88 per cent of the total 288 newly-elected MLAs of Maharashtra are crorepatis, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which has analysed the self-sworn affidavits of the legislators.
Of the 288 newly elected MLAs, 253 (88 per cent) are crorepatis. Of 262 MLAs analysed during the Maharashtra 2009 assembly elections, 174 (66 per cent) MLAs were crorepatis.
Out of the 288 newly elected MLAs, 80 (28 per cent) have total assets worth more than Rs 10 crore, 10 have total assets worth more than Rs 50 crore and 4 MLAs have total assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.
These four MLAs are Mangal Prabhat Lodha of the BJP (Rs 198 crore), Abu Asim Azmi of the SP (Rs 156 crore), Jagdish Tukaram Mulik of the BJP (Rs 104 crore) and the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi's Hitendra Thakur (Rs 100 crore).
Among the major parties, the average assets per MLA for 122 BJP MLAs analysed is Rs 11.67 crores. 63 Shiv Sena MLAs have average assets of Rs 6.90 crores, 42 Congress MLAs have average assets worth of Rs 9.01 crores and 41 NCP MLAs have average assets of Rs 11.82 crores.
