‘Namma votu maaratakilla’ is one of KEW’s campaigns in the run-up to polls

“Namma votu maaratakilla” (Our vote is not for sale).

This will be one of the campaigns the Karnataka Election Watch (KEW) will spearhead with the help of NGOs in the run-up to the Assembly elections.

The objective is to educate the people not to vote by accepting money, alcohol, gifts etc. from candidates or political parties.

The KEW is an arm of the Association for Democratic Reforms that is working for election reforms.

Not only that, the KEW will soon launch an android-based application exclusively for Karnataka Assembly elections to enable people to post photographs about wrong-doings or poll malpractices.

KEW decided to take its campaign to the districts during a meeting organised here on Saturday with representatives of NGOs and social organisations for “clean and free” elections.

Trilochan Sastry, IIM-B professor and founder and trustee of ADR, said besides using print and the electronic media, KEW would distribute pamphlets and hold meetings at the district and local level to educate people against getting influenced by political parties.

He said KEW would send about 55,000 to 60,000 SMSs a day to spread “our vote is not for sale” campaign. Recorded outbound voice calls would also be used to reach the mobile users.

Prof. Sastry said KEW volunteers would keep an eye on wrong-doings or election malpractices and bring them to the notice of the Election Commission.
