The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) released the income of national parties for the financial year 2024-25. According to the report, the BJP's total income is ₹6,769.15 crore. According to the report, the BJP alone holds 85% of the income of the 6 national parties. BJP's income is 55.95% higher than last year and about 7 times more than Congress. The total income of the country's six major national parties - BJP, Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and National People's Party (NPEP) - was recorded at ₹7,960 crore. Compared to last year, the total income of national parties has increased by 41.35%. Meanwhile, Congress's income was ₹1,230.73 crore in 2023-24, which decreased to ₹918.29 crore in 2024-25. This is about 25.39% less than last year. AAP's earnings increased by 73.20%, while there is not much difference in the income of BSP and CPI-M. Highest Earnings from Donations and Coupons According to the report, the main source of income for political parties is donations. More than 85% of the national parties' total income, approximately ₹ 6,772.53 crore, came from voluntary donations received from people and organizations. Among these, the Bharatiya Janata Party raised approximately 90.48% of its total income from donations. On the other hand, Congress also earned well by selling coupons in addition to donations, which brought the party about 350.05 crore. Meanwhile, BSP did not show any income from donations in its report. The party's entire income is said to have come from bank interest and other investments. Congress spent 1111 crore A significant difference is also visible between parties in terms of spending money. Six national parties together spent a total of ₹4,710.27 crore. Among these, the Bharatiya Janata Party spent ₹3,335.37 crore on election campaigns and administrative tasks, which is not even half of its total income. Meanwhile, Congress's income was ₹918.29 crore, but the party spent a total of ₹1,111.95 crore. This means Congress spent about 193.66 crore more than its income. CPI-M also spent about 84% of its income. On the other hand, BJP and BSP have saved a large portion of their income for the future. Gross negligence in submitting reports As per the Election Commission's directives, all parties were required to submit their audit reports by October 31, 2025. However, only BSP, AAP, and NPEP adhered to the deadline. The ruling party BJP, submitted its report 56 days late, and Congress submitted it 48 days late. CPI-M also took 18 days to submit its report.
