BJP has three out of five of the richest candidates contesting the upcoming Delhi assembly election with its Shakur Basti candidate, Karnail Singh, having the highest valued assets worth nearly Rs 260 crore.

According to an analysis done by Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), a non-profit, apolitical group working in the field of electoral reforms, there is a massive disparity in the financial background of candidates for the upcoming election. There are five billionaires with assets over Rs 100 crore each and three candidates do not have a penny on them. The financial details in their election affidavits show they have "zero" assets.

The other four billionaire contestants include BJP's Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rs 249 crore), Congress's Gurcharan Singh (Rs 131 crore), BJP's Parvesh Verma (Rs 116 crore) and AAP's A Dhanwati Chandela (Rs 110 crore). Sirsa and Chandela are contesting from Rajouri Garden. Singh has filed his nomination from Krishna Nagar, and Verma from New Delhi assembly constituency.

Three candidates with zero assets include Shabana from Rashtriya Republican Party contesting the Seelam Pur constituency; Yogesh Kumar, an independent candidate from Matiala constituency and Mohinder Singh, another candiate from Rashtriya Republican Party representing the Matiala constituency.

Those with minimal wealth include Ashok Kumar (Independent), who reported assets of Rs 6,586, and Anita (Independent),who decalred Rs 9,500.

The average assets of candidates reveal significant differences between parties. BJP candidates lead with assets of Rs 22.9 crore on average, followed by the Congress with Rs 14.4 crore and AAP with Rs 11.7 crore.
