A report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) claims that, out of 126 MLAs of Assam, 63 MLAs have been re-elected. Among all the newly elected MLAs, 21 (17%) have criminal cases, and 19 (15%) have serious criminal cases registered against them. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has released this report.
According to the report, 3 MLAs have cases of attempt to murder, and 2 have cases of atrocities against women. In 2011, the number of MLAs with serious criminal cases was 8, which has increased to 19 in 2026, more than double.
In the new assembly, 107 (85%) MLAs are millionaires. In 2011, this number was 47 (37%). The assets of 25 MLAs are more than ₹10 crore. 74 BJP MLAs are millionaires. AIUDF's Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal has the highest assets of ₹226 crore. He is the owner of the well-known perfume brand Ajmal.
This time in the state, the BJP got 82 seats in Assam, the Congress got 19, Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) got 10 seats each. Others got 5 seats.
Looking at it party-wise, 14 out of 82 BJP MLAs and 16 out of 19 Congress MLAs have criminal cases against them. Whereas no BPF MLA has a criminal case.

In 2026, a total of 107 (85%) MLAs are millionaires. In 2021, this number was 85. 90% of BJP MLAs and 14 out of 19 Congress MLAs are millionaires.


The total assets of 126 MLAs are ₹1,112 crore. The average asset of each MLA is about ₹8.82 crore, which is double that of 2021. 74 out of 85 BJP MLAs are millionaires.
25 MLAs have assets worth more than ₹10 crore, 32 have ₹5-10 crore, and 50 have ₹1-5 crore. 15 have ₹20 lakh-1 crore, and only 4 have assets less than ₹20 lakh.


Other facts related to Assam MLAs-
- In Assam, the highest number of MLAs, 54, are between 51-60 years old. Meanwhile, 36 are between 41-50, 24 between 61-70, 9 between 31-40, 2 between 25-30, and only 1 candidate is between 71-75.
- Out of 126 MLAs, 50 are graduates. 21 are post-graduates, 12 are professional graduates, 6 have doctorates, 22 MLAs have passed 12th grade, and 14 have passed 10th grade.
- A total of 63 MLAs were re-elected. Their average assets increased from ₹4.25 crore in 2021 to ₹8.02 crore in 2026, an increase of about 88%.
- Out of 126, 119 men (94%) and only 7 women (6%) won. Women's participation in the assembly is still low.
