Political events in Manipur appear to have promoted candidates with cash energy and legal backgrounds, in response to an evaluation by the Association for Democratic Reforms or the ADR. The BJP has fielded probably the most variety of candidatees with legal circumstances adopted by the JD(U).

At least 21 per cent of the 173 candidates in fray for first section polls in Manipur have declared legal circumstances. Sixteen per cent of them have severe legal circumstances towards themselves.

While two candidates have declared circumstances associated to crime towards girls, two candidates have circumstances associated to homicide (IPC Section-302) towards themselves. Six candidates have declared circumstances associated to Attempt to homicide (IPC Section-307) towards themselves.

The ADR additionally mentioned that greater than half the candidates contesting the primary section of Manipur elections are crorepatis.

Among the main events, 11(29%) out of 38 candidates analysed from the BJP, 7(25%) out of 28 candidates analysed from JD(U), 8 (23%) out of 35 candidates analysed from INC and three (11%) out of 27 candidates analysed from NPP have declared legal circumstances towards themselves of their affidavits.

Eight out of 38 constituencies are Red alert constituencies. Red alert constituencies are these the place 3 or extra contesting candidates have declared legal circumstances towards themselves.
